Glee Season 5 Episode 1
Love Love Love – September 26, 2013
Glee was back last week with an all new episode featuring the music of the Beatles.
Unlike the previous seasons of Glee, season 5 starts back right where season 4 left us, which means that it’s suppose to be March? or April? in the Glee world? I’m not entirely sure, but the episode begins with Rachel (Lea Michele) doing her chemistry audition for Funny Girl with none other than Mister Fantastic himself, Ioan Gruffudd! As it turns out, the producer of the Broadway production (Peter Facinelli) doesn’t seem so sure that Rachel is the right fit for the role since she is a new comer to the Broadway scene. Cue Rachel singing a really beautiful version of Yesterday, while sadly walking the streets of NYC.
Later on in the episode, Santana (Naya Rivera) gets Rachel a job at the Spotlight Diner (it’s near Broadway), where they will get to sing and work at the same time. Which is exactly what they do in the episode by singing Hard Day’s Night to try and impress the Funny Girl producer. And it works! I think?
Back at McKinley, New Directions have a two weeks assignment on the Beatles so that they too, like the Beatles, can “believe that together, they can do anything” (hey that’s what Mr Shue (Matthew Morrison) said, not me). What that all really means is that we get to see the kids sing the Beatles at a random carnival, in the school yard and also dress up as them. Oh and let’s not forget that Blaine (Darren Criss) does a huge wedding proposal for Kurt (Chris Colfer) with the help of the Warblers, Vocal Adrenaline and the Haverbrook Deaf Choir.
I have to be honest, I didn’t really care for the McKinley side. While Kitty (Becca Tobin) and Artie‘s (Kevin McHale) new relationship is super adorable, it came out of nowhere. Blaine’s proposal was cute, but again I don’t get why everybody was suddenly for it, when most of these same kids thought Rachel and Finn (Cory Monteith) getting married was not a good idea. I still think they are all too young to be getting married. (then again, I’ve never been a big Kurt and Blaine fan)
Anyways, that’s pretty much it for the Glee season 5 premiere. It was a pretty average episode for a season premiere in my opinion. However, I’m pretty excited about this week’s episode because Demi Lovato will join the cast!
What did you guys think about the season premiere?
